Determining if Nursing Qualifies as a Profession Abstract Nursing will be compared to common characteristics of a profession to determine if nursing qualifies as a profession. Does Nursing Qualify as a Profession? â€Å"There are six characteristics commonly used to asses whether a job is considered a profession: education of the practitioner, having a code of ethics, receiving compensation commensurate with the work, being organized to promote a needed service, having autonomy in practice, and being recognized by the government with licensure†(Pinkerton, 2001,p.130). â€Å"Florence Nightingale first began professional education for nurses in 1860"(Wikipedia, 2015). Currently there are several levels of education for nurses, ranging from diploma to doctoral degrees. Nurses are legally accountable to practice within the nurse practice acts set forth by legislature. These laws are derived from an official code of ethics that was first published by The American Nurses Association in 1971. Compensation commensurate with work falls short when compared with autoworkers, who receive comparable, if not higher wages and better benefits than nurses do. Nursing has several organizations. â€Å"The National League for Nursing (NLN) is primarily responsible for regulating the quality of the educational programs that prepare nurses for the practice of nursing†(Catalano, 2000,p.10). Beer was probably discovered by accident, when some of the nomadic tribes of the Middle East decided to settle down to an agricultural life depending on the cultivation of grain. In times of plenty the excess might have been stored for a possible future period of failure. Due to the damp storage condition the grain might have sprouted and germinated in a desperate bid to salvage the crop they must have made porridge by boiling the sprouted grain with water. This must have released sugar into the liquid resulting in a sweet tasting porridge. This was probably left in open to cool allowing the natural yeast of the atmosphere to settle on the porridge forming alcohol or what was a crude wash. There is evidence that the brewing process was established in Babylon as early as 6000 B.C. The Egyptians improved upon this process, which was diffused along the trade routes by the Greeks & the Romans. The Romans started brewing on a commercial basis to provide a substitute to wine. The term bear today covers all beer drinks such as ales, lagers & stout. Beer gets it’s name from Anglo Saxon Word called â€Å"Beer† meaning â€Å"BARLEY†. Beer is the national alconolic beverage of Great Britain. Although the basic traditional method of brewing beer is still being used now the whole production process is controlled by the programme equipment so that each phase is carried out at the exact time required and can be corrected if necessary. By this centralised control, consistency of the brew from batch to batch is better.

For many centuries the laws and federal agencies have failed to protect kids from Child abuse. Child Abuse is a substantial conflict around the world. Approximately five children die every day due to child abuse, something that can easily be prevented. It is time to change this number to zero. No kid deserves to feel the way they feel after being abused; emotionally, physically, or even sexually. The definition of child abuse is a parent or caregiver reflecting violent pain or neglect towards a child. The rate of kids that are being abused should decrease to make this society more effective for kids to feel secure and comfortable with their surroundings. It is beyond inhumane and biased and must be stopped so the innocent children can grow up, live their life, and not be afraid hiding behind a shell praying an incident like that never happens to them again, or to another child. Contrary to the progression of society, the unethical act of child abuse still reigns as an epidemic of great concern, especially in the United States. According to research conducted by the National Criminal Justice Reference Service, a series of nationwide studies on child abuse show that it is intensifying and increasing (Gil). With the amount of child abuse cases brought to courts every year, one might assume that the dilemma would become less prominent in society. Unfortunately, this is not the case.
